MGC President's Page
April 2011

MGC Members,

Hope this message finds everyone healthy and playing well. For all the members
who were fortunate enough to play in the PAL Interclub Tournament in Cagayan De
Oro and the subsequent tour, welcome back. Congratulations to Captain Tony
Limgenco and the Stanford Golf Team for winning Second Runner-Up in the Men's
Tournament Friendship Division. Winning is something we can always look forward
to. The next PAL Golf Interclub tournament will be held in Davao. For those of you
who are interested in playing the Senior or the Men's Division, talk to Tony or Gerry
Sy or look for the previous captains- Boy Tan and Greg Roja of Mabuhay, Ador
Arcalas and Mar Lagrisola of Skywest and Peter Garcia of Greenhills West.

Tournament season is in full swing and our April tournament next week in Silverado
South is already our fourth. I am not sure if you know but Silverado Resort has been
bought by Johnny Miller and his group so they are making improvements to the
north course which we were supposed to play in. Make sure you sign up. Our
sponsor, member Vince Solon of VS Marketing and Medical Supplies has donated
additional trophies for closest to the pins and Low Gross and Low Net. Of course,
we all hope for good weather.

Tony, our VP for tournaments has set the Summer Classic sponsored by Gerry Sy to
be a 2-man best ball format for two days (for more fun) and has found a better
hotel in Holiday Inn. So, find a partner and start making plans.

Your board is working hard to develop a level playing field. Although we have seen
first time winners last year, we want to make sure there are more first time
winners. All of us are capable of playing well and scoring well. We ask everyone to
diligently post their scores after every golf game. It is important if we want to
preserve the integrity of the game we all love. Attached is the MGC Handicap Policy
and Sample Handicap Reduction Letter. We tried to simplify and outline the basic
USGA Rules. You will find in the policy the role of the Handicap committee,
adjustment of non-tournament scores/ ESC Table (we always ask for the maximum
score we can post in any given hole based on our handicaps), posting of scores- 18
holes, less than 13 holes, nine-holes, Handicap Differential formula and examples.
If you have other questions, feel free to talk to John Warren, your VP for Handicap
and his committee members Tony Sy, Tony Limgenco and Jun Cusing.

Ron Tolman, our past president and ex-officio member of the board has kept our
website continously updated as needed to catch up on the winners, tournament
schedule/course directions, points and pictures.  Just in case you have forgotten the
user name is mabuhaygc and the password is member. Ron has also updated the
Members Manual and is attached for your information. We also encourage new
members to send me their biodata so the membership will know more about them.

Lastly, your club is also involved in the community. We have sanctioned
tournaments like St. Patrick's Church, Cagayanon's and others. This time we are
helping the Philippine Consulate hold the 113th Philippine Independence
Commemorative Golf Tournament in Deer Ridge, Brentwood, CA on Saturday, May
21, 2011. Although most of us live here now, as Filipinos, it would be nice to
support the planned festivities. For those of you who play Sharp Park, you may lose
it if the politicians have their way. Remember at one time the State wanted to tax
golf play to raise money. We were part of the effort to stop that. We need to fight
again. You have seen a copy of my letter supporting the efforts to save Sharp Park.
As Fr. Dura said in an email "The politicians have politicized Sharp Park". We need
to stop the politics disguised as the fight over the preservation of the "Red Frog".
The Alliance to Save Sharp Park has scheduled a rally and fundraising on April 28,
2011 at the Clubhouse. We encourage every member to attend.

That is all for now. Happy Golfing to everyone.

Greg Roja, President
Mabuhay Golf Club
